Time to Vote Fake Republicans Out of Office

By John Grady

We are now almost 11 months into the Trump administration. It has provided ample opportunity to advance the Republican agenda and legislative goals for moving this country forward and making it a better place for all of its citizens. While significant progress has been made in undoing the disastrous executive actions put into place under President Obama, little or no progress has been made in terms of major legislation, such as repealing the Affordable Care Act. Numerous attempts have been made by the Republican leadership in both the Senate and the House to accomplish this nearly decade-long goal of Republicans. Examples of these attempts include the Patient Freedom Act of 2017, which was introduced by Senators Susan Collins and Bill Cassidy, as well as Graham-Cassidy, written by Senators Lindsey Graham and Bill Cassidy.

The Patient Freedom Act of 2017 was described as “Obamacare Light” by Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky. In his opinion, the bill did not go far enough in its efforts to undo Obamacare, and he, consequently, refused to vote in favor of putting the bill through the Senate. He also refused to vote in favor of a subsequent attempt to repeal Obamacare—the Graham-Cassidy bill. Rand Paul is not the only Republican to have voted against the attempts to repeal Obama’s signature piece of legislation.

Senator John McCain has also voted against every attempt by Republicans to eliminate this heinous piece of legislation, while failing to give any credible reason as to why. Senator McCain has also been a frequent critic of President Trump, condemning most of the moves by Trump to make our nation safer, such as the travel ban on visitors from several Muslim-majority nations, as well as the attempt to build a wall on our southern border that we share with Mexico.

Of recent relevance is Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona, who made news for his recent tirade against President Trump, while announcing his decision to not seek reelection in 2018. Flake has been a notorious critic of Trump since the beginning, calling him out on what he sees as Trump’s unpresidential behavior and decorum, as well as his policy stances.

These are just a few examples of notorious Republicans-In-Name-Only, also known as RINOs. They claim to support Republican goals and legislative agendas, but their rhetoric and voting records consistently prove, otherwise. It is time we vote these fakes out of office and elect people to represent us whose records match their words.
